The same principle applies, arguably even more strongly, to children, whose circadian rhythms and melatonin sensitivity are still developing. Both traditional and modern guidance converge clearly here: an earlier, firmer screen cutoff for kids, paired with a calm, consistent bedtime routine, tends to produce noticeably better sleep than negotiating screen time later into the evening simply because it keeps everyone occupied and quiet in the short term.

When Work Genuinely Requires Evening Screens

Not everyone has the flexibility to avoid screens entirely in the evening, and for those with unavoidable evening work, the more realistic adjustment is shortening the gap between screen use and sleep as much as practical, dimming the screen itself, and adding even a brief non-screen wind-down, five minutes of stretching or slow breathing, immediately afterward rather than going straight from a bright screen into bed.

However you implement it, the underlying goal stays the same across both traditions: give your mind and body an unmistakable, consistent signal that the day is ending well before you actually expect to fall asleep.
